Grand Prairie Freeze Out

Summer is officially here, and the temperatures are rising rapidly. There’s no better way to cool down on a hot summer day than with homemade ice cream! The Grand Prairie Farmers Market, 120 W. Main St., will be churning out homemade frozen treats on July 12, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. during its first Main Street Freeze Out homemade ice cream competition. Ice cream makers from all over the metroplex are encouraged to enter their creamy concoctions into the competition, and ice cream lovers everywhere are urged to come to taste test and vote for the best flavors.

Awards will be given as follows: 

• Best Overall Ice Cream

    • 1st place: $75 and a trophy
    • 2nd place: $25 and a trophy
    • 3rd place: trophy
• Most Unique Ice Cream

    • $25 and a plaque
• People’s Choice Award

    • $75 and a plaque

    All entrants must register by Wednesday, July 9 and pay a $10 application fee. On July 12, entrants must bring a freezer or cooler, a scoop or spoon, an outdoor-rated extension cord and enough ingredients to produce two gallons of ice cream.
